Dentures are removable dental appliances designed to replace missing teeth and surrounding tissue. They are custom-made to fit comfortably in the mouth, providing both aesthetic enhancement and functional restoration for individuals who have lost all or some of their natural teeth.

Dentures typically consist of a pink or gum-colored acrylic base that supports a set of artificial teeth made from various materials such as acrylic resin, porcelain, or a combination of materials. They are fabricated based on impressions taken of the patient's mouth to ensure a precise fit and natural appearance.

There are two main types of dentures:

  1. Complete Dentures: These are used when all teeth are missing in either the upper or lower jaw, or both. Complete dentures rely on suction and oral muscles for retention and stability.

  2. Partial Dentures: Partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain in the jaw. They consist of replacement teeth attached to a gum-colored base, which is often connected by metal framework or clasps to the natural teeth for support and stability.

Dentures offer several benefits, including restoring the ability to chew and speak properly, improving facial appearance by providing support for lips and cheeks, and preventing the remaining natural teeth from shifting out of position. They also play a crucial role in enhancing self-confidence and quality of life for individuals who have experienced tooth loss.
